A book recommendation: How to Win Friends & Influence People.

In the last year this book has had the greatest impact on my work life than any other. Why? Because it teaches you how to get the most out of the people around you. Not in a way that you're "controlling" them, but in a way that makes them want to work with you and see you succeed as much as you want to. The key messages that stick out to me to this day are:

  • Preserving other's ego over your own.

  • Be genuinely interested in what others have to say.

  • Show sincere appreciation.

  • Induce urgency in something that needs to be done.

  • Allow people to have their feeling of importance by giving them the space to solve issues themselves.

  • Talk about your own mistakes first.

  • Always put yourself in the other person's shoes.
